505 steam turbine control · LVDC and AC/DC variants
Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 are 505 Digital Controls for steam turbines with single or split-range actuators. They execute the configurable speed, load and process-control functions that position the turbine inlet valve through the selected actuator arrangement.
The two Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 references differ at the power-entry boundary: 8200-1300 is the LVDC ordinary-location version, while 8200-1301 is the AC/DC ordinary-location version. The controller then uses its menu-driven configuration, PID loops and actuator outputs to process the turbine control demand.
Power enters Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 through different supply sections, then the 505 control processes the selected speed/load, auxiliary and cascade loops before sending actuator and DCS data. The LVDC and AC/DC entries therefore belong to separate supply paths even though the control functions share the 505 family.

Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 use the 505 configuration path to select the turbine options and loop relationships.
Configuration mode defines the actuator, process and operating options for the specific turbine.
The speed/load, auxiliary and cascade loops interact according to the selected configuration.
Configuration mode places the hardware in IOLOCK while settings are being selected, so outputs remain inactive during setup.
Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 provide serial and Ethernet paths for plant-level data exchange.
One serial port supports RS-232 or RS-485 with ASCII or RTU Modbus transmission.
Two Ethernet ports carry the configured information between the 505 and a plant DCS.
The power entry and signal wiring must use the location-appropriate conductors and routing for the exact supply variant.
How do the supplies differ between Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301?
Woodward 8200-1300 accepts 18–36 Vdc, while 8200-1301 accepts 88–264 Vac or 90–150 Vdc. Verify the exact nameplate before connecting power; the two supplies are not interchangeable wiring assumptions.
Can Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 use the same DCS port settings?
The controls expose the same general Modbus communication paths, but the port type, address and protocol settings still must be matched to the installed unit. Check serial versus Ethernet routing before changing the DCS configuration.
What happens to outputs while Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 are in Configuration mode?
Configuration mode places the hardware in IOLOCK, with relays de-energized and analog outputs at zero current. Confirm downstream devices are fail-safe for that state before entering configuration.
Which footprint and GAP files belong to Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301?
Use the revision-specific footprint and GAP part numbers recorded for the controller revision. Do not load a file only because the family name is 505; the control revision determines the required files.
How should field wiring be selected for Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301?
Use stranded copper conductors rated for the expected ambient and apply the location-specific wiring method. The ordinary-location versions do not inherit the wiring permissions of a hazardous-location variant.
Can the split-range actuator setup for Woodward 8200-1300 / 8200-1301 be inferred from the supply model?
No. Supply class and actuator arrangement are separate configuration choices. Verify the configured actuator option and output assignments in the actual 505 application.
