2 MB controller for integrated EtherNet/IP motion

Allen-Bradley 5069-L320ERM CompactLogix 5380 Controller with Integrated Motion

Dual 1 Gb Ethernet ports, 16 local I/O modules and eight motion axes.

01

Product Description

For machines that need coordinated motion without a separate motion controller, the Allen-Bradley 5069-L320ERM combines Logix control with eight integrated motion drive axes over EtherNet/IP.

Its 2 MB user memory supports as many as 16 local Compact 5000 I/O modules and 40 EtherNet/IP nodes. Two Ethernet ports can be arranged for linear, Device Level Ring or Dual-IP network designs.

The 5069-L320ERM mounts horizontally on DIN rail and uses separate MOD and SA power connections, so the controller and field-side I/O supply can be segmented during commissioning and maintenance.

Integrated Motion Capacity

Coordinate eight drive axes on EtherNet/IP

  • Configure as many as eight integrated motion drive axes while retaining the standard controller task model.
  • Place motion drives on the EtherNet/IP path supported by the controller and budget every device against the 40-node ceiling.
  • Use time-synchronized network design and validated drive update rates when axis coordination depends on deterministic timing.
  • The 2 MB memory and 16-module local-I/O allowance set the practical boundary for machine logic, motion objects and local signals.
04

Controller Power & Expansion Limits

Separate controller power from field-side load planning

  • Feed MOD power with 18…32 V DC and reserve for the 450 mA maximum controller demand plus startup inrush.
  • Size SA power for the attached Compact 5000 I/O field circuits rather than assuming the controller rating covers downstream loads.
  • Mount the controller on a horizontal DIN rail and keep the required end-cap and bank arrangement.
  • The dimensional figure provides the enclosure envelope before cable bend space and ventilation clearances are added.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can 5069-L320ERM accept a new drive but refuse another motion axis?

The controller has separate limits for EtherNet/IP nodes and integrated motion axes. Count configured drive axes against the eight-axis limit and all network devices against the 40-node limit before changing the project.

Can 5069-L320ERM use both Ethernet ports as two independent plant networks?

Yes when Dual-IP mode is supported and configured, but each port then requires its own IP settings and network plan. Do not bridge two existing networks accidentally; confirm the selected Ethernet mode before connecting the second cable.

What should be checked when 5069-L320ERM resets as several I/O modules energize?

Measure MOD and SA power separately during startup and compare inrush and steady-state load with the supply capacity. A healthy controller supply does not prove the field-side SA source can support the attached module bank.

Does 5069-L320ERM support more than 16 local Compact 5000 I/O modules through another adapter?

The local bank beside the controller is limited to 16 modules. Additional distributed I/O can be placed behind supported EtherNet/IP adapters, but those adapters and devices consume network-node capacity.

Why does 5069-L320ERM lose coordinated motion after a network topology change?

Check that the new topology preserves time synchronization, drive paths and ring-supervisor settings where DLR is used. Also verify that switch features and multicast handling are appropriate for the motion traffic.

How much enclosure space should be reserved for 5069-L320ERM?

Start with the published 143.97 × 98.10 × 136.81 mm controller envelope, then add wiring bend radius and required clearances. The dimension figure is the equipment size, not the complete panel-space allowance.
