Allen-Bradley 22A-D1P4N104, 22A-D4P0N104 and 22A-D8P7N104 are PowerFlex 4 variable-frequency drives for three-phase induction motors on 380…480 V three-phase systems. In a machine control panel they form the adjustable motor-power stage between branch protection and the motor, providing local or remote speed, direction, acceleration and stop control.
Three-phase line power entering 22A-D1P4N104, 22A-D4P0N104 and 22A-D8P7N104 is rectified to the DC bus and switched by the inverter into controlled 0…460 V three-phase output. Commands reach the V/Hz control logic from the keypad, fixed and programmable digital inputs, one isolated analog reference or integral RS-485 DSI, while the relay output communicates a selected drive condition.
Machine sequences using 22A-D1P4N104, 22A-D4P0N104 and 22A-D8P7N104 can select either of two acceleration/deceleration pairs and choose ramp, coast or DC-brake stopping. Electronic motor overload, current limiting, overcurrent and DC-bus monitoring remain active while the speed changes; the two lower-output models use the smaller frame and the highest-output model uses the larger frame, but the command and protection functions remain common.

The 480 V group crosses a mechanical boundary at the highest current rating, so rail position, screw pattern and conductor space follow the selected frame.
The two lower-current models use the compact Frame A enclosure. DIN-rail or panel mounting is available, and the line, motor and control terminals must remain reachable after adjacent devices are fitted.
The 8.7 A model moves to Frame B, increasing width and height while retaining the same enclosure depth. The mounting plan must change even when the control function is unchanged.
Zero stacking is allowed through 40 °C, while operation at 50 °C uses the stated minimum spacing. The arrangement must also preserve the fan cooling path.
Separate ramp settings and multiple stop choices define how the drive moves between commanded speeds and how motor output is removed.
Two independently programmable acceleration and deceleration times range from 0 to 600 seconds. A digital input can select the second pair for an alternate machine sequence.
Ramp, coast, DC brake and related clear-fault stop modes are available. The selected mode determines whether output is reduced through a controlled ramp or removed without a ramp.
The current-limit and overload functions remain active while the drive accelerates or decelerates. A command that exceeds the available motor-control capacity therefore changes the actual ramp behaviour or produces a protective response.
The first two models use Frame A, while 22A-D8P7N104 uses Frame B. Input current, heat loss, dimensions and mass therefore change along with the output rating.
All three accept a nominal 380…480 V three-phase source with a 340…528 V operating range. Their motor outputs remain model-specific and cannot be inferred from the common input class.
The drive can use ramp, coast or DC-brake stop behaviour according to the selected parameter. Clear-fault variants combine the stop action with fault-reset logic.
A programmable input can call a second acceleration/deceleration pair for a different machine sequence. Both ramp pairs are set independently within the 0…600 second range.
No. 22A-D1P4N104 and 22A-D4P0N104 share Frame A, but 22A-D8P7N104 uses Frame B. The exact drawing and mounting pattern must follow the selected model.
Electronic overload, current limiting, overcurrent and DC-bus supervision continue to monitor the drive. A commanded ramp does not bypass the motor or power-stage protection functions.
