Allen-Bradley 22B-B2P3N104, 22B-B5P0N104 and 22B-B8P0N104 are PowerFlex 40 variable-frequency drives that control three-phase induction motors from a 200…240 V three-phase source. Installed between the branch protective device and motor, they provide adjustable speed, direction, acceleration and stopping for machine tools, fans, pumps, conveyors and material-handling equipment.
Line power entering 22B-B2P3N104, 22B-B5P0N104 and 22B-B8P0N104 is converted to a DC bus and then switched into adjustable 0…230 V three-phase motor output. Local commands come from the fixed keypad and potentiometer; external commands enter through fixed or programmable digital terminals, isolated analog references or RS-485 DSI, and operating state is returned through the display, relay, opto and analog outputs.
Application logic inside 22B-B2P3N104, 22B-B5P0N104 and 22B-B8P0N104 can use a PID loop, preset speeds, StepLogic, timers, counters or basic Boolean logic before it changes the motor command or an output state. A communication adapter can add DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, PROFIBUS DP, BACnet or LonWorks to the integral DSI architecture; all three models share these control options, while the connected motor determines the required output-current version.

PowerFlex 40 keeps its voltage input, current input and analog output as defined channels, allowing the control design to separate the incoming reference from the drive's outgoing process signal.
Terminal 13 accepts a 0…10 V unipolar reference or a ±10 V bipolar reference. Its 100 kΩ input impedance and isolated analog common belong to the low-level signal circuit.
Terminal 15 accepts 4…20 mA through a 250 Ω input. The current and voltage inputs are separate and can participate together when the configured PID function needs both signals.
The analog output is selected for 0…10 V or 0…20 mA with a DIP switch and the matching parameter. It can report drive data or provide a reference to a second drive.
Three output types let the drive report operating state to relay logic, a controller input or an analog instrument without assigning the same electrical load to every channel.
The normally open, common and normally closed contacts can indicate ready, fault or another selected status. The dry contact keeps the external circuit electrically separate from the drive logic.
Two 30 V DC, 50 mA opto outputs can signal motor running, at frequency, overload, logic results and other programmable conditions. Their common is isolated from the analog section.
Read-only display parameters show output frequency, current, voltage, DC-bus voltage, input state and communication status. These values support commissioning without changing the active command.
Their output-current and motor-power ratings increase in three steps. All three use the same three-phase 240 V input class and Frame B enclosure, so the load requirement is the main electrical distinction.
Yes. The voltage and current inputs are distinct, independently isolated channels and can be used together in an appropriate configured function such as PID. Their commons and scaling still follow the control-wiring diagram.
It can provide a scalable 0…10 V or 4…20 mA indication within its stated load limit. The hardware selector and Analog Out parameter must agree on voltage or current mode.
Either opto output can be programmed for Motor Running, while the Form C relay can carry another selected status. The external receiving circuit must match the rating of the chosen output type.
No. These three catalog numbers all use the Frame B IP20 open-type construction and the same published outline. Their current and power ratings still remain model-specific.
RS-485 DSI is integral to each drive and supports programming or a multi-drop RTU arrangement. EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet and other networks require the corresponding communication option architecture.
