Allen-Bradley 22A-B2P3N104 and 22A-B4P5N104 are PowerFlex 4 variable-frequency drives for controlling three-phase induction motors from a 200…240 V three-phase supply. Each drive is installed after branch protection and before the motor, where it adjusts output frequency and voltage to control motor speed, direction, acceleration and stopping.
Within 22A-B2P3N104 and 22A-B4P5N104, the three-phase input feeds a rectifier and DC bus, then an IGBT inverter produces 0…230 V three-phase motor power. Start and reference commands can arrive from the integral keypad and potentiometer, the dedicated and programmable digital terminals, the isolated analog input or RS-485 DSI; the Form C relay supplies a hardwired status output.
Four preset-frequency commands in 22A-B2P3N104 and 22A-B4P5N104 can be selected by the programmable digital inputs, allowing external contacts to call defined motor speeds without supplying a changing analog reference. The drive moves toward the chosen frequency through the active acceleration or deceleration ramp and continues to apply current limiting and overload protection; the motor load determines which of the two common-control power stages is required.

The installation places protective and conditioning components ahead of the drive, then carries the controlled output through the motor cable to the load.
A listed fuse or motor-protection device interrupts branch faults ahead of the drive. Its current and interrupting rating are selected from the drive input and available short-circuit conditions.
A line reactor can be applied where the supply requires impedance or transient conditioning. EMC filtering, when required, is external for these no-filter three-phase catalog numbers.
The drive provides Class 10 overload protection, while motor-cable type, length and reflected-wave treatment depend on the completed motor circuit. The U, V and W conductors remain separate from control wiring.
Two programmable digital inputs let the drive select among fixed speed commands without requiring a continuously variable analog reference.
PowerFlex 4 provides four preset-frequency selections. The active combination of the assigned digital inputs chooses the stored command used by the speed-control loop.
Digital Inputs 1 and 2 can instead be assigned to jog, local control, second acceleration/deceleration, RS-485 control, clear fault or an auxiliary fault. Their function is defined in the parameter set.
When a different preset becomes active, the drive moves toward the new frequency using the selected acceleration or deceleration time. The motor does not jump instantly between speed commands.
The input current and available fault current determine the selected fuse or motor-protection device. 22A-B2P3N104 and 22A-B4P5N104 have different input currents even though both use a Frame A outline.
Neither N104 model includes the integral EMC filter used by another suffix. If the installation requires filtering, the applicable external solution belongs in the system design.
PowerFlex 4 provides four preset-frequency choices. Programmable digital inputs select the active preset according to their assigned functions.
Their total dissipation values are 30 W and 50 W respectively. The enclosure thermal calculation must use the exact model even though the mechanical frame is common.
Yes. The communication port can be selected as the start or speed-reference source. The node settings and master commands then become part of the commissioned control path.
The drive follows the programmed acceleration or deceleration ramp toward the new command. The selected stop and current-limit functions remain active during the transition.
