Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS pairing covers the two smallest Kinetix 5100 EtherNet/IP indexing servo-drive ratings. Both drives combine the power converter, embedded indexing functions, motor-feedback interface, digital I/O, dual EtherNet/IP ports and hardwired safe torque-off terminals in one 200 V-class package; 2198-E1004-ERS is rated 0.4 kW at 230 V and 2198-E1007-ERS is rated 0.75 kW.

Input supply changes the usable motor power for 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS. At 120 V single phase, the respective ratings reduce to 0.2 kW and 0.375 kW, while 230 V single- or three-phase operation supports the full catalog rating. Motor power leaves through the U/V/W connector, feedback returns through the MFB interface, and command, diagnostic and indexing data travel through the two network ports.

EtherNet/IP Indexing and Feedback Interfaces

2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS place motion commands, indexing data and motor feedback on separate interfaces inside the same drive.

Dual network ports

The two EtherNet/IP connectors support line or device-level-ring wiring while Logix commands and drive diagnostics share the network connection.

MFB feedback return

Motor position and commutation information enter through the dedicated feedback connector rather than through the Ethernet ports or general-purpose I/O.

Embedded indexing

Stored index profiles can command position moves using assigned digital inputs, while the same drive reports status and faults to the controller.

Low-Power Input and Circuit Protection

The supply and protection choices for 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS change with input phase and the output rating required from each drive.

120 V derating

Single-phase 120 V operation halves the 230 V motor-power rating, so motor sizing must use 0.2 kW and 0.375 kW rather than the catalog headline values.

Phase-specific protection

The smaller drive uses 15 A single-phase or 10 A three-phase protection; the 0.75 kW drive uses 20 A or 15 A respectively.

Power-terminal limits

Both ratings accept 24…12 AWG conductors with an 11 mm strip length, keeping line and motor terminations within the documented connector range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS deliver less power on a 120 V supply?

The drive power stage operates at a lower dc-bus voltage when supplied from 120 V single phase. Motor selection must therefore use the reduced 0.2 kW and 0.375 kW ratings instead of the full 230 V values.

Can 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS use the same branch-circuit protection?

Not automatically. The recommended protective-device rating differs by catalog number and by single- or three-phase input. Select protection from the exact drive column and installed supply.

What should be checked when 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS has network communication but no motion?

Verify safe torque off, drive enable, motor feedback, index or motion command state and active faults. A working Ethernet link does not prove that the power stage is permitted to generate torque.

Where does motor feedback connect on 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS?

It connects to the dedicated MFB interface, not to a general digital input or the Ethernet jacks. The feedback type and cable must match the selected motor.

When is an external shunt resistor needed with 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS?

It is considered when regenerated energy exceeds the drive’s internal dissipation during the motion profile. The resistor and duty cycle must be sized from the actual load, deceleration and drive rating.

How should cabinet heat be evaluated for 2198-E1004-ERS / 2198-E1007-ERS?

Use the documented drive losses, ambient temperature and enclosure ventilation rather than motor kilowatts alone. Maintain the required mounting clearances so heat does not accumulate around either drive.
