Triconex · Tricon safety systems
Triconex 8120X is the main chassis of the Tricon CX safety system. It forms the controller's central processing frame by holding three 3009X main processors and up to four communication modules in defined MP and COM positions. Its primary duty is to join those modules through the powered backplane and expose the communication and I/O-bus connections used by the rest of the system.
Power for Triconex 8120X enters through two independent 24 V DC terminal groups. The chassis distributes that logic power to the processor and communication positions, shows the state of each feed at the front, and provides two isolated alarm-contact paths for external annunciation. A supply problem can therefore be checked separately from an alarm generated by the processor set or the control program.
From Triconex 8120X, the main processors exchange I/O data with 8131X expansion chassis through the triplicated I/O-bus ports, while serial, copper and fiber host connections remain on the installed communication modules. Field I/O does not terminate in the main chassis, so processor traffic leaves the frame through the I/O bus before reaching an expansion chassis and its external termination hardware.

8120X provides one compact main frame for processing and communications, but its mounting clearances and power entries remain part of the cabinet design.
Processors, communication modules, status indicators and cable connections are reached from the front of the installed chassis.
Two 24 V DC sources land on the chassis power terminals so each supply can be checked independently.
Space below and in front of the frame must accommodate copper, fiber and serial cable bend radii without pressing on connectors.
8120X exposes chassis power, alarm and module status so a cabinet check can separate a supply problem from a processor or communication fault.
Power 1 and Power 2 indication identifies whether each redundant feed is within the permitted range.
The isolated redundant alarm contacts carry chassis alarm state to external annunciation wiring.
Processor and communication-module LEDs identify faults at the installed module rather than only at the common chassis alarm.
The chassis is arranged for three 3009X main processors. A quotation should keep the chassis and processor quantities separate because the chassis does not include every installed module by default.
No. The main chassis contains processor and communication positions. Tricon CX I/O modules are installed in an 8131X expansion chassis.
State the available redundant 24 V DC sources, cabinet grounding arrangement and expected communication-module population. These details affect supply sizing and heat calculation.
A Tricon CX main chassis uses a 4355X TCM or 4610X UCM for external communications. The exact mix must follow the COM-slot and redundancy configuration.
A main chassis fitted with the higher-power UCM has a lower stated ambient limit. Cabinet cooling must therefore be checked against the actual communication-module population.
Confirm both redundant alarm contacts, their external supply and the destination annunciation circuit. A blown alarm fuse is visible at the chassis and must not be confused with a processor fault.
MOORE AUTOMATION
https://www.mvme.cn/Moore Automation checks the complete model, requested quantity and visible part condition before a Tricon CX chassis order is packed. The quotation and shipment record keep the chassis separate from processors, communication modules and accessories so included items remain explicit.
