KINETIX 5500 · NETWORKED SAFETY SERVO DRIVES
Allen-Bradley 2198-H008-ERS2 / 2198-H070-ERS2 / 2198-H003-ERS2 are Kinetix 5500 integrated-safety servo drives covering compact through higher-output motion axes. They combine servo control and the ERS2 safety capability within one controller-based drive family.
Allen-Bradley 2198-H008-ERS2 / 2198-H070-ERS2 / 2198-H003-ERS2 give one Kinetix 5500 control platform three distinct cabinet positions. The complete model remains the reference for the assigned axis, allowing the controller, motor connection and safety configuration to be checked against the physical unit during installation and startup.

The compact and larger drive bodies require deliberate placement before the shared-bus hardware and field cables are added.
Reserve the cabinet position for the exact H003, H008 or H070 body before drilling, rail preparation or cable routing.
Align adjacent drive bodies and their shared-power interfaces without forcing the larger frame into a compact-frame position.
Leave access to the network, feedback and motor connections so each axis can be isolated and identified during service.
Startup checks the controller, feedback and safety routes separately so a connection fault is not mistaken for a drive-size problem.
Confirm that the controller discovers the catalog-numbered drive and that the configured axis owns the expected physical port.
Verify that motor position changes are returned through the assigned feedback connection before torque is enabled.
Exercise the configured safety command and confirm the drive changes to the expected safe state independently from normal motion control.
Begin with the axis continuous and peak current requirement, then select the matching catalog number and frame. H003, H008 and H070 are not size variants that can be exchanged after the motor and bus calculations are complete.
The ERS2 safety function uses Safe Torque Off over EtherNet/IP with a GuardLogix safety controller. The exact drive suffix must remain in the project so that the safety-capable device is identified correctly.
They support shared DC-bus and hybrid arrangements as part of the Kinetix 5500 family. Select the leader and followers from their actual ratings; the H070 current class especially changes the group calculation.
The EtherNet/IP route can be linear, device-level ring or star. Network wiring carries control and safety communication, while motor power and feedback use the drive-side connections.
Use Studio 5000 Logix Designer version 24.00 or later when adding the ERS2 drive. Record the full model string in the project instead of using a generic Kinetix 5500 entry.
H003 and H008 use Frame 1 while H070 uses Frame 3, so their physical and output classes differ. Check the frame with the current rating before laying out the shared-bus assembly.
Incoming items are checked for model identity and condition before quotation and shipment, with the requested configuration retained in the enquiry record.
