34.6 / 21.2 A peak-current class460 V axis modulesSafety / modular control roles

Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M comparison contains two 460 V-class Kinetix axis-module executions with different control roles. The 2094-BM05-S is a Kinetix 6000 safety axis module in the 34.6 A class, combining the power section with its safety-capable axis control, while 2094-BM03-M is a 21.2 A Kinetix 6200/6500 modular power module that receives a separately selected control module on the front of the power stage.

Both 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M attach to the 2094 power rail, receive the shared dc bus and drive one compatible servo motor through the motor-power connector. Their feedback, network and safety behavior are not interchangeable: 2094-BM05-S belongs to the integrated Kinetix 6000 safety architecture, whereas 2094-BM03-M provides the power base used with the appropriate Kinetix 6200 or 6500 control module and its corresponding SERCOS or EtherNet/IP design.

Kinetix 6000 and 6200/6500 Module Roles

2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M occupy similar power-rail positions but divide axis control differently.

Integrated safety-axis role

2094-BM05-S combines its 34.6 A power stage with the Kinetix 6000 safety-axis control and related SERCOS architecture.

Modular power-base role

2094-BM03-M supplies the 21.2 A motor-power stage; a compatible Kinetix 6200 or 6500 control module establishes feedback, network and control behavior.

Shared rail power

Both modules draw from the 2094 rail dc bus, so rail width, integrated axis module capacity and total motor duty remain system-level constraints.

Safety-Axis and Modular-Axis Integration

Replacing or configuring 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M requires matching power hardware with the correct network, feedback and safety architecture.

Control-interface match

The BM03-M front interface cannot be treated as the integrated BM05-S control section; it must receive the documented modular control head.

Motor and feedback pair

Motor power rating, feedback connector and controller axis definition are selected as one compatible combination from the official Kinetix tables.

Safety validation boundary

The safety-axis implementation of BM05-S and any safety function associated with a modular BM03-M system require separate hardware and project validation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M not direct substitutes?

They have different current ratings and different control architectures. BM05-S is an integrated safety axis module, while BM03-M is a modular power stage that needs the correct front control module.

What should be recorded before removing 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M from a power rail?

Record the complete catalog number, rail position, motor, feedback cable, network node, firmware and installed control module. Those details determine whether the replacement can restore the same axis role.

Can 2094-BM03-M operate without its control module in 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M comparison?

No. BM03-M is the motor-power base for a modular Kinetix 6200/6500 axis. The compatible control module supplies the required processor, network and feedback interfaces.

Why does current rating matter when comparing 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M?

The 34.6 A and 21.2 A classes support different motor torque and acceleration envelopes. Rail power, motor cable, thermal load and compatible motor tables must all be checked.

What power must be removed before servicing 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M?

Remove ac input to the integrated axis system and isolate the dc bus according to the installation procedure. Wait for bus discharge and verify the measured voltage before touching the rail or module terminals.

How is a feedback fault approached on 2094-BM05-S / 2094-BM03-M?

Identify whether feedback lands on the integrated BM05-S interface or on the control module mounted to BM03-M. Then check the motor-feedback cable, connector, motor identity and axis configuration for that exact architecture.
