For 400 W and 800 W Kinetix 3 axes, the Allen-Bradley 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8 are compact component servo drives that combine a 230 V input stage, digital control interfaces, motor feedback processing and regulated three-phase motor output. Each unit controls one physical servo axis without a shared modular power rail.
Inside the enclosure, 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8 use separate main and control-power terminals, but their accepted mains arrangements differ: AP4 is a single-phase drive, while AP8 can be wired from single- or three-phase input. Both frames provide two chassis-ground screws so the motor-cable shield, protective earth and bonded metal subpanel form a short cabinet grounding path.

The Allen-Bradley 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8 use two chassis-ground points and a local motor-cable shield clamp to return protective and high-frequency currents to the bonded subpanel.
Both ground points bond the drive chassis and provide practical termination positions for the incoming and motor protective-earth conductors.
The drive mounts to a bonded metal surface so the chassis and enclosure ground remain connected over a short, low-impedance path.
The motor cable jacket is removed only at the clamp location, exposing the shield without uncovering the insulated phase conductors.
The clamp holds the exposed shield close to the drive and supplies strain relief before the phase wires reach the motor terminals.
The Allen-Bradley 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8 share the Kinetix 3 control structure but accept different mains phase arrangements around their power classes.
The 400 W AP4 uses the designated single-phase 230 V input path for its motor-power converter.
The 800 W AP8 accepts either the specified single-phase connection or a three-phase supply across its assigned input terminals.
Separate control terminals feed the electronics so their fuse and wiring path are coordinated independently of the motor-power input.
Both drives deliver regulated U/V/W output to one servo motor, with feedback returning through the dedicated low-voltage connector.
On 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8, aP4 uses single-phase input, while AP8 accepts the specified single- or three-phase arrangement. Follow the terminal pattern and protective-device data for the exact model.
No. Before wiring 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8, aP8 uses a larger enclosure than AP4. Update panel cutout, airflow and cable-bend space when moving between the two power classes.
While commissioning 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8, they support short chassis and protective-earth connections within the cabinet wiring layout. Both remain bonded to the conductive subpanel rather than serving as isolated signal grounds.
For 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8, expose the shield only at the defined clamp area and secure it firmly to the grounded bracket. Keep the insulated motor phases intact as they continue to the output terminals.
Within a 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8 installation, their input currents, phase options and enclosure sizes differ. Select fuse, contactor and conductor size for the exact supply and drive rather than copying the 400 W circuit to the 800 W unit.
No. When specifying 2071-AP4 / 2071-AP8, motor rating, input phase, current, body size and protective hardware all change. Confirm the complete axis design before substituting one Kinetix 3 power class for another.
