Emerson / GE Fanuc IC200GBI002 Profibus-DP Network Slave Interface Module

Product Overview

The IC200GBI002 is a Profibus-DP Network Slave Interface module from the Emerson VersaMax I/O series (formerly GE Fanuc). It provides a Profibus-DP network interface that allows a VersaMax I/O station to operate as a remote I/O slave on a Profibus-DP network, supporting up to 128 bytes of input and 128 bytes of output data exchange with the network master.

The module supports Profibus-DP communication at 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps with auto-baud detection. It provides two network connectors (9-pin D-sub) for Profibus IN and OUT connections, allowing daisy-chain network topology without external terminators in the middle of the chain.

Configuration is performed through GE Proficy Machine Edition software or a GSD file for the network master. The IC200GBI002 communicates with local VersaMax I/O modules through the backplane, providing a seamless interface between the Profibus network and the local I/O rack.

Profibus-DP Communication Features

Network Capabilities

  • Profibus-DP slave interface for VersaMax I/O
  • Auto-baud detection from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps
  • 128 bytes input and 128 bytes output max
  • Configurable network address 1–125

Installation & Diagnostics

  • Dual 9-pin D-sub connectors for IN/OUT daisy-chain
  • LED indicators: CNF, ACT, ERR
  • GSD file for network configuration
  • 500 VAC network isolation
  • DIN-rail or panel mounting

Configuration & Installation

The IC200GBI002 is configured through GE Proficy Machine Edition software for Profibus-DP communication settings. For operation with a third-party Profibus master, the GSD file is imported into the master’s configuration tool to define the module’s I/O data structure and diagnostic capabilities.

The module supports Profibus-DP network cable lengths of up to 1200 m at 93.75 kbps using shielded twisted pair cable. For a 200-meter application at 500 kbps, the maximum segment length is 400 m, providing sufficient margin for most industrial installations.

Two 9-pin D-sub connectors (IN and OUT) allow the module to be inserted into an existing Profibus network without external termination in the middle of the chain. The module auto-detects the network baud rate, simplifying commissioning and reducing configuration errors.

FAQ

What is the maximum data exchange capacity of the IC200GBI002?
The IC200GBI002 supports up to 128 bytes of input and 128 bytes of output data exchange with the Profibus-DP network master. This is sufficient for most discrete and analog I/O configurations within a VersaMax I/O station.
What is the maximum cable length supported by the IC200GBI002?
Profibus-DP supports up to 1200 m at 93.75 kbps, 400 m at 500 kbps, and 200 m at 1.5 Mbps using shielded twisted pair cable. The module auto-detects the baud rate selected by the network master.
What are the three LED indicators on the IC200GBI002?
The module has three status LEDs: CNF indicates the module is configured, ACT indicates network activity, and ERR indicates a network error or configuration mismatch. These LEDs help with troubleshooting network communication issues.
How is the network address configured on the IC200GBI002?
The Profibus-DP network address (1–125) is configured through Proficy Machine Edition software or via DIP switches on the module, depending on the firmware revision. Each slave on the network must have a unique address.
What software is required to configure the IC200GBI002?
Configuration requires GE Proficy Machine Edition software for the VersaMax platform. A GSD file is provided for importing into third-party Profibus master configuration tools. Profibus-DP network settings and I/O mapping are defined through the software.
