Incoming branch
Single-phase line conductors enter the drive through the branch protection and input-power path. The branch device and conductor rating follow the drive input current rather than the motor output current.

Allen-Bradley 22B-A2P3N104 is a PowerFlex 40 variable-frequency AC drive for operating a three-phase induction motor from a 200…240 V single-phase supply. It is mounted in a control panel between branch-circuit protection and the motor, where it starts, stops, reverses and regulates motor speed for equipment such as machine tools, fans, pumps, conveyors and material-handling systems.
Inside 22B-A2P3N104, the single-phase input is rectified to a DC bus and an IGBT inverter produces adjustable 0…230 V three-phase output. A fixed keypad and speed potentiometer provide local commands; three fixed and four programmable digital inputs, separate voltage and current analog inputs, a relay, two opto outputs and a selectable analog output connect external controls and status devices, while the integral RS-485 DSI port supports programming or an RTU multi-drop link.
Programming 22B-A2P3N104 begins by assigning the start source, speed reference, motor nameplate data and acceleration or stop behavior. The drive then uses those settings with sensorless-vector or V/Hz control to regulate the motor, stores recent fault codes for diagnosis, and applies electronic motor-overload, current-limit and DC-bus protection while it is running; the N104 suffix keeps the installation within the standard open, no-filter, brake-equipped construction.

The input and output sides serve different electrical systems, so the supply conductors, DC-bus section and motor leads must remain distinct through the installation.
Single-phase line conductors enter the drive through the branch protection and input-power path. The branch device and conductor rating follow the drive input current rather than the motor output current.
The rectifier converts the incoming AC into the internal DC bus. The brake transistor connects the DC bus to an external braking resistor when the configured deceleration produces regenerative energy.
The IGBT output stage generates variable-frequency three-phase power at U, V and W. Motor direction and speed follow the active run command and frequency reference.
The fixed keypad gives the drive a local command and programming surface before any PC or network tool is connected.
The four-digit display and ten LED indicators identify operating state, units and fault condition. Display-group parameters expose output frequency, current, voltage, DC-bus voltage and control status.
The front potentiometer can act as the selected speed source. Start, stop and direction keys provide local operation when the corresponding parameters assign the keypad as the command source.
The most frequently used motor, frequency, source and acceleration settings are grouped for initial setup. The remaining parameters extend I/O, protection and communication behavior.
The input rectifier accepts the single-phase 200…240 V branch and feeds the internal DC bus. The inverter then synthesizes adjustable three-phase output for the motor.
The branch requires the selected fuse or motor-protection device ahead of the drive. That protective device is sized from the drive input data and available fault current, not from the output phase count alone.
Yes. The control section accepts either a 0…10 V signal or a 4…20 mA signal as the active analog speed reference. Only one analog frequency source is used at a time on PowerFlex 40.
The keypad can be selected as the start source and the front potentiometer as the speed reference. The display then shows drive status and the chosen operating value.
The catalog number is an IP20, NEMA/UL open-type unit without an integral EMC filter. Environmental protection must therefore come from the completed panel arrangement.
An integral RS-485 DSI port supports programming and multi-drop communication. Other industrial networks use the relevant communication option rather than an assumed embedded interface.
Moore Automation combines a broad industrial automation product range with responsive order handling. The service information covers original products, fast delivery for available items, a one-year warranty and communication throughout the purchasing process.
