2 × 2.5 / 5 A continuousAdvanced safety over EtherNet/IP55 mm dual-axis frame

Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 pair consists of 55 mm Kinetix 5700 dual-axis inverter modules with advanced safety functions. One shared dc-bus input feeds two independent motor power stages; 2198-D006-ERS4 provides 2.5 A rms continuous per axis and 2198-D012-ERS4 provides 5 A rms, while each axis retains its own motor output, feedback input, status and control path.

Inside 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4, EtherNet/IP carries axis commands, diagnostics and the supported integrated-safety connection, while hardwired motor-power and feedback cables remain separate for axis A and axis B. The module receives 24 V control power in addition to the shared dc bus, and the ERS4 execution adds advanced safety functions beyond basic safe torque off without changing the need for a matched Kinetix 5700 power supply and motor configuration.

Dual-Axis Current Delivery

2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 share one module body and dc-bus connection while preserving separate current limits for the two motor channels.

Independent axis outputs

Axis A and axis B each receive a dedicated three-phase motor output and feedback connector, so one module can control two motors with separate motion loops.

Rating step between frames

Moving from D006 to D012 doubles the continuous current from 2.5 to 5 A rms per axis and increases the available peak current for acceleration.

Shared bus loading

Regenerated and motoring energy from both channels reaches the common Kinetix 5700 dc bus, so system sizing uses the combined duty of the two axes.

Advanced Safety Network Functions

The ERS4 suffix makes 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 advanced-safety inverter modules whose safety commands and status can participate in the supported integrated architecture.

Networked safety connection

Safety data uses the designated EtherNet/IP safety connection while ordinary motion commands and diagnostics use their configured controller paths.

Axis-specific torque control

Safety functions act on the relevant motor channel, allowing the safety design to distinguish axis A from axis B within the same physical module.

Configuration consistency

Drive firmware, safety configuration signature, controller project and physical axis wiring must describe the same catalog and motor arrangement before validation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 run two different motor sizes?

Yes, each axis has its own feedback and motor output, but both motors must fall within the current and compatibility limits of the selected module. The combined duty must also remain within the common dc-bus system capacity.

Why would one axis fault while the other axis on 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 remains identifiable?

Motor power, feedback and axis diagnostics are separated inside the dual-axis module. Check the faulted channel’s motor cable, feedback path, configuration and load before replacing the entire module.

What changes when replacing one rating in 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 with the other?

The continuous and peak current capability changes, but catalog identity, motor data, protection and safety configuration must still be updated and validated. A larger rating is not a drop-in license to keep an unverified project.

Why does 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4 need both dc-bus and 24 V power?

The dc bus supplies motor energy to the inverters. The 24 V connection powers control electronics and related circuits, allowing status and configuration functions to remain distinct from motor-power availability.

How is advanced safety checked on 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4?

Validate the safety network connection, controller ownership, configured functions, feedback assumptions and proof-test sequence for both axes. Normal motion over EtherNet/IP does not by itself prove the safety path.

What mounting issue most often affects 2198-D006-ERS4 / 2198-D012-ERS4?

Insufficient airflow or incorrect side-by-side alignment can raise temperature and stress the shared connectors. Keep the specified orientation, clearances and bonding arrangement across the Kinetix 5700 lineup.
