Allen-Bradley 1734-ARM POINT I/O Address Reserve Module

Maintains a planned POINT I/O address and slot position while a non-parameterized signal module is absent.

System roleSlot continuityPOINT I/O specialty module

1Product Description

Within a POINT I/O assembly, the Allen-Bradley 1734-ARM reserves the address and slot number assigned to a purchased I/O module set. It keeps that planned position available when a non-parameterized signal module has been removed.

The reserve function retains the removed signal module’s structure and address location until a signal module is installed again. This specialty module does not provide a configurable I/O function and does not communicate I/O data.

Mounted on a compatible POINT I/O terminal base and powered through the POINTBus, the module maintains a documented sequence while a signal point is temporarily absent. Its role is to preserve the assembly position rather than process a field signal.

3Address Reservation Function

Retained slot identity

The module holds the address and slot number used by a purchased POINT I/O module set. This keeps the intended numbering scheme in place while the corresponding non-parameterized signal module is absent from the assembly.

When a signal module is installed again, its structure and address location are retained rather than reassigned by the temporary gap. The reserve module therefore occupies an organizational role in the I/O assembly.

Clear functional boundary

1734-ARM does not provide module configuration and does not communicate I/O data. It is not a substitute for a signal module when a process signal must be read or an output must be controlled.

  • Reserves a POINT I/O address and slot
  • Supports the numbering of a purchased I/O module set
  • Retains the removed signal module’s location
  • Does not add I/O data communication

4Terminal-Base Compatibility

Compatible base families

The module is used with 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TOP, or 1734-TOPS terminal bases. The base installed at the location remains part of the POINT I/O mounting arrangement, so the selected reserve module must match the documented assembly position.

Before inserting the reserve module, identify the base part number already assigned to that location. This avoids treating the address reserve function as permission to interchange unrelated POINT I/O mounting hardware.

Keyswitch continuity

Use the keyswitch position of the removed module. Retaining that setting keeps the mechanical position aligned with the module location that the reserve module is holding.

The keyswitch check belongs to the replacement preparation sequence: record the removed module’s position, keep the compatible terminal base in place, and then seat the reserve module in the reserved slot.

POINT I/O base assembly

The POINT I/O base mounts on the DIN rail and provides the backplane. The I/O module snaps into that base, while the removable terminal block snaps into the base to provide field-side wiring terminations and system power for the backplane.

For the reserve location, keep the compatible base and use the removed module’s keyswitch position. The assembly drawing identifies the base as A, the POINT I/O module as B, and the removable terminal block as C.

5Frequently Asked Questions

Install 1734-ARM in the location reserved for the removed non-parameterized signal module. It holds that module set’s address and slot number, so the original structure and address location are retained until a signal module is fitted again.
