TRICON V10.X · Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module
SERIAL AND PARALLEL COMMUNICATION MODULE
Modbus, TriStation and printer interfaces on isolated ports
The Triconex 4119 is an Enhanced Intelligent Communication Module for Tricon v10.x or earlier systems. It provides four serial interfaces for Modbus or TriStation communication and one isolated Centronics parallel interface for a printer, allowing control-system data and print output to leave the controller on separate port types.
Each serial port on the 4119 can use RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 and is isolated to 500 VDC. Modbus traffic can operate in RTU or ASCII mode, while address aliases in the control program connect Tricon variable names to the numeric references used by Modbus devices.
All four serial paths on the 4119 can operate concurrently, but their combined data rate must not exceed 57.6 Kbps. Front-panel transmit and receive indicators expose activity by port, while Pass, Fault and Active indicators report module-level condition.

The 4119 assigns Modbus and TriStation traffic to four independently addressed serial interfaces while keeping the printer on a separate parallel port.
Each serial port can be wired as RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 to match the selected external interface.
Serial and parallel ports carry 500 VDC isolation between the communication wiring and controller circuitry.
All four serial ports can transfer data at the same time provided their total rate stays within 57.6 Kbps.
The 4119 converts control-program variable references into the numeric aliases used in Modbus messages and exposes traffic at the front panel.
Each Tricon variable read or written by a Modbus device receives a numeric alias that identifies its message type and address.
The module supports both Modbus transmission modes, allowing framing to be selected for the connected device.
TX and RX indicators identify activity for each port, while Pass, Fault and Active LEDs show the module condition.
The 4119 provides four serial ports. It also has a separate Centronics parallel interface for printer output. Each port is uniquely addressed, so the port number and its configured protocol should be captured with the cable assignment.
Each serial port supports RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485. The selected electrical standard must match the connected device and wiring. The 500 VDC isolation specification applies to the communication ports and separates their wiring from controller circuitry.
Yes. The module supports Modbus communication in RTU or ASCII mode, along with the listed Modbus functions. RTU or ASCII framing must match the connected Modbus device; support for both modes does not make the settings automatic.
All four serial ports can operate concurrently, but their aggregate rate cannot exceed 57.6 Kbps. Individual baud settings therefore have to be considered together. For example, four simultaneous 19,200-baud assignments would exceed the stated aggregate limit.
The EICM does not provide a hot-spare feature. A faulty module can be replaced online, but this is not the same as an active standby pair. The replacement approach should therefore not be described as automatic redundancy or standby takeover.
Pass, Fault and Active indicate module state. Separate TX and RX lights show traffic on each communication port. A port LED without a healthy module state is not enough by itself to confirm complete communication operation.
