TRICON V10.X · Advanced Communication Module
FOXBORO I/A NODEBUS INTERFACE
Controller data exchange through Nodebus and TS/TSAA links
The Triconex 4609 is an Advanced Communication Module for Tricon v10.x or earlier systems. It links a Tricon controller with a Foxboro I/A system through Nodebus connections and provides a separate TS/TSAA network port for TriStation and TSAA data exchange.
On the Nodebus side, the 4609 provides a BNC connection for RG-58 cable, a 15-pin AUI connection to the DNBI and a 9-pin RS-423 control-bus connection to the DNBI. The two 10 Mbps data connections and the 2400-baud control link serve different parts of the I/A interface rather than one shared connector.
Front-panel status on the 4609 separates module condition from network activity. Pass, Fault and Active report the module, ONLINE and SBRDY report the Nodebus state, and TX/RX indicators show traffic for the individual ports.

The 4609 divides Nodebus data and control connections across dedicated connectors leading to the DNBI and I/A network.
The 15-pin connector carries a 10 Mbps AUI link from the ACM to the DNBI.
The 9-pin RS-423 connection carries the 2400-baud Nodebus control relationship with the DNBI.
BNC connectors provide the RG-58 network interfaces assigned to Nodebus and TS/TSAA traffic.
The 4609 exposes module health, Nodebus readiness and per-port traffic as separate front-panel states.
PASS, FAULT and ACTIVE indicate whether the ACM has passed diagnostics and is active in the controller.
ONLINE shows the Nodebus connection state, while SBRDY reports spare readiness.
TX and RX indicators identify transmitted and received data for each monitored communication port.
The 4609 interfaces a Tricon controller with a Foxboro I/A system. Its Nodebus connectors lead through the DNBI connection path. The ACM presents the Tricon controller as a safety node on the I/A Series Nodebus rather than as a general Ethernet device.
It is the AUI cable connection to the DNBI. That data path operates at 10 Mbps. The AUI and control-bus cables therefore connect to different DNBI interfaces and should not be interchanged.
The 9-pin RS-423 connector carries the control-bus connection to the DNBI. Its listed communication rate is 2400 baud. Its lower rate and control purpose distinguish it from the 10 Mbps Nodebus data connection.
Yes. A BNC connector on the module connects the TS/TSAA network using RG-58 50-ohm cable. That BNC path is separate from the DNBI AUI and RS-423 connections used by the Nodebus interface.
PASS, FAULT and ACTIVE describe module condition. ONLINE, SBRDY, TX and RX expose Nodebus readiness and port activity. Reading the indicator groups separately helps distinguish a module fault from an inactive or disconnected network path.
The module is listed for Tricon v10.x or earlier systems. This version boundary should be checked before selecting the communication hardware. The controller system version and the existing communication-module combination should both be reviewed before installation.
