TRICON V10.X · Enhanced Main Processor III, 16 MB
NUCLEAR 1E MAIN PROCESSOR VARIANT
Certified 3008N variant mapped to the standard 3008 architecture
The Triconex 3008N is the nuclear-qualified Enhanced Main Processor III, 16 MB variant for Tricon v10.x systems. Its certified-equipment mapping points to the standard 3008 hardware description, where three processor modules execute and compare controller work through the triplicated TriBus architecture.
Inside the 3008N, a 50 MHz Motorola MPC860 performs main processing while a second MPC860 handles communication activity. The 16 MB DRAM supports active application and I/O data, 32 KB of battery-backed SRAM preserves retained information, and 6 MB Flash provides nonvolatile storage.
The 3008N moves processor comparison data over a 25 Mbps, CRC-protected TriBus and exchanges I/O over a 375 Kbaud RS-485 interface. A separate optically isolated RS-232 diagnostic port provides the service path, keeping diagnostic access apart from controller I/O traffic.

The 3008N uses the standard 3008 processor and memory architecture under its nuclear-qualified model designation.
A 50 MHz MPC860 executes controller work and accesses the active 16 MB DRAM space.
A separate 50 MHz MPC860 handles the communication interface rather than combining both roles on one execution path.
Battery-backed SRAM preserves retentives, while Flash provides nonvolatile storage independently of working DRAM.
The 3008N separates interprocessor voting, I/O transfer and communication-module traffic across dedicated buses.
The 25 Mbps TriBus uses CRC protection and isolated DMA to synchronize and compare the three processor channels.
The RS-485 I/O interface moves module data at 375 Kbaud between the processor bank and installed I/O modules.
A separate RS-485 communication interface runs at 2 Mbps for data exchanged with communication modules.
The 3008N is the nuclear-qualified equipment variant. Its official mapping directs hardware specifications and architecture to standard model 3008. The N suffix should remain in the requested model even when standard-model technical data is consulted.
Yes, because the certified-equipment table explicitly maps 3008N to 3008. This mapping supports the architecture and specification values used for the certified variant. No other 3008-family suffix should be substituted solely because it shares the underlying processor architecture.
A Tricon controller uses three Main Processors. Their data is synchronized and compared through TriBus. The three modules still operate as separate processor channels rather than one processor with three logical tasks.
The 32 KB SRAM is battery backed for retained information. The 16 MB DRAM serves active working data and is a separate memory resource. Flash memory separately stores nonvolatile content and should not be confused with either SRAM or DRAM.
The standard 3008 architecture used by 3008N operates TriBus at 25 Mbps. The path includes 32-bit CRC protection and isolated DMA. I/O traffic and communication-module traffic use their own RS-485 interfaces in addition to TriBus.
No. The 3008N maps to 3008 and uses the 3008 processor architecture; 3009 has a different processor, memory capacity and chassis-dependent TriBus rate. Processor type, memory capacities and diagnostic connector should all be checked before treating two MP models as equivalent.
