Emerson / GE Fanuc IC200BEM103 / IC200BEM104 VersaMax Network Communication Modules

Product Overview

The IC200BEM103 and IC200BEM104 are Emerson VersaMax network communication modules (formerly GE Fanuc). The IC200BEM103 is a DeviceNet Network Control Module that can be configured to operate as a master, as a slave, or as both simultaneously, exchanging up to 512 bytes of input and 512 bytes of output data with other devices on the DeviceNet network.

The IC200BEM104 is an AS-Interface Network Master Module that conforms to the AS-Interface Specification for the master AS-Interface protocol. It connects a VersaMax PLC or I/O station NIU to an Actuator-Sensor network, supporting communications with up to 31 slave devices and exchanging up to 4 bits of input data and 4 bits of output data per slave address.

Both modules operate on the VersaMax platform and allow the CPU to read and write network data as though it were conventional bit- and word-type I/O data. Configuration is performed through GE Proficy Machine Edition software, the same platform used for programming VersaMax CPUs.

Configuration & Installation

The IC200BEM103 is configured through GE Proficy Machine Edition software. The module uses a 5-pin open-style connector for DeviceNet network connection. For best performance, use shielded pair cable with a center drain wire. The module supports different data rates of 125, 250, and 500 Kbaud.

The IC200BEM104 connects to the AS-Interface network through a 5-pin open terminal. The AS-i flat cable simultaneously carries 30 VDC power and 167 kbit/s signal, reducing wiring by up to 50% and cabinet space by 30%. The module supports auto address assignment and online replacement, allowing slave devices to be replaced within 10 seconds in case of failure.

Both modules mount directly onto VersaMax carriers and communicate with the CPU through the backplane. The VersaMax PLC CPU can read and write network data as conventional bit- and word-type I/O data, simplifying programming and integration.

FAQ

What is the difference between IC200BEM103 and IC200BEM104?
The IC200BEM103 is a DeviceNet Network Control Module that can operate as master, slave, or both simultaneously, exchanging up to 512 bytes of input/output data. The IC200BEM104 is an AS-Interface Network Master Module that connects to Actuator-Sensor networks, supporting up to 31 slave devices with 4 bits input/output per slave.
What data rates does the IC200BEM103 support?
The IC200BEM103 supports DeviceNet communication at 125 Kbaud, 250 Kbaud, and 500 Kbaud. The maximum trunk line length varies by baud rate: 500m at 125 Kbps, 250m at 250 Kbps, and 100m at 500 Kbps.
How many slave devices can the IC200BEM104 support?
The IC200BEM104 supports up to 31 standard AS-Interface slave devices plus 1 diagnostic slave (32 addresses total). Each slave exchanges 4 bits of input data and 4 bits of output data per cycle.
What software is required to configure the IC200BEM103 or IC200BEM104?
Both modules are configured through GE Proficy Machine Edition software, the same platform used for programming VersaMax CPUs and managing I/O configurations.
What are the power requirements for the IC200BEM103 and IC200BEM104?
Both modules consume 140 mA from the 5V DC backplane. The IC200BEM103 also uses 24 VDC for DeviceNet network power, while the IC200BEM104 uses 30 VDC supplied via the AS-i cable for the Actuator-Sensor network.
