KINETIX 5500 · INTEGRATED SAFETY OVER ETHERNET/IP
Allen-Bradley 2198-H015-ERS2 / 2198-H025-ERS2 / 2198-H040-ERS2 are Kinetix 5500 integrated-safety servo drives for individual machine axes. Within the Kinetix 5500 system, each drive converts controller motion commands into controlled motor operation while participating in the machine safety architecture.
In a multi-axis Kinetix 5500 cabinet, Allen-Bradley 2198-H015-ERS2 / 2198-H025-ERS2 / 2198-H040-ERS2 let the controller environment remain consistent while each axis retains its exact drive identity. The selected model stays associated with its motor, safety assignment and position in the standalone or shared-power assembly from configuration through commissioning.

Commissioning follows the control chain from the controller project to the drive status, with normal motion and safety checked as separate functions.
Add the complete ERS2 catalog number to the Logix project and associate it with the intended physical drive before establishing the motion connection.
Assign the Safe Torque Off connection to the GuardLogix safety controller and validate it independently from ordinary axis commands.
Before motor enable, confirm controller ownership, network status and the safety-ready state at the same drive position.
A shared-power assembly must preserve the electrical role of every physical drive position instead of treating adjacent modules as interchangeable.
Identify each position as standalone, bus leader or follower before installing the shared-power hardware.
Align the shared-bus connectors only between the drive positions included in the designed power group.
Keep each motor cable and feedback cable with the same catalog-numbered drive after the shared-power links are installed.
Select each drive from its own continuous-current and output-power rating, then make the bus leader capable of the followers connected to that group. A shared DC-bus design does not turn the three Frame 2 catalog numbers into equivalent replacements.
The Safe Torque Off function is exchanged over EtherNet/IP with the GuardLogix safety controller. Add the exact ERS2 catalog number to the controller project and keep the safety network configuration with the axis configuration.
The family accepts the 195...264 V single- or three-phase range and the 324...528 V three-phase range. Confirm the selected drive, bus arrangement and upstream protection for the actual supply before wiring the axis.
Use Studio 5000 Logix Designer version 24.00 or later for the ERS2 drive family. Register the complete catalog number, not only the H015, H025 or H040 size, so the project retains the safety-capable variant.
Motion and drive data travel through the EtherNet/IP connection, which can be arranged in linear, device-level ring or star topology. The motor feedback and motor power connections remain separate from the network route.
The three part numbers have different continuous and peak current windows, even though they share a frame and network family. Keeping each complete model visible prevents a power-class substitution during procurement or commissioning.
Moore Automation combines exact catalog-number handling with responsive international enquiry support for industrial automation components.
