Continuous field-loop checks
Circuit-continuity checks verify that a field load remains present. POWER and LOAD/FUSE indications distinguish loss of field supply or a fuse/load problem from the point's commanded On or Off state.

Triconex 3623 is a 120 VDC, 16-point, commoned TMR supervised digital output module for the Tricon Triple Modular Redundant control system. It receives three independently processed output commands from the triplicated I/O bus, resolves them through the module's output-switch voting network and applies the voted state to each connected field load.
Within Triconex 3623, the A, B and C bus transceivers feed separate microprocessors and point registers. Their drive circuits operate opto-isolated output switches, and the switch arrangement combines the three paths into one field output while keeping the channel processing independent upstream of the voting stage.
Field supervision in Triconex 3623 follows the outgoing circuit rather than relying only on the commanded state. Voltage and current loopback checks allow the module to detect loss of field power, a blown fuse, an open or missing load, an output short that energizes a load in error, and a shorted load while de-energized; point, field-alarm and module-status indicators separate the affected circuit from the overall module state.

The internal path of Triconex 3623 keeps three control channels separate until the field-switch network. That organization allows each processor path to command and observe the same physical output point without routing the field load through a single unverified command chain.
Channels A, B and C enter through separate bus transceivers. Each microprocessor writes its point state to its own register before the signals reach the output drive circuitry.
Individual and combined drive paths operate the opto-isolated switches. The switch network produces one voted field state while loopback paths return observations to all three processors.
The sixteen points share the module's commoned field-circuit arrangement. Each point still has its own load path, fuse and supervision indication, so a point fault can be localized without treating the entire output group as one load.
Triconex 3623 supervises both energized-to-trip and de-energized-to-trip field circuits by comparing commanded states with voltage and current loopback. Its diagnostics therefore cover the module electronics and the connected field loop, rather than stopping at the output register.
Circuit-continuity checks verify that a field load remains present. POWER and LOAD/FUSE indications distinguish loss of field supply or a fuse/load problem from the point's commanded On or Off state.
The module toggles the output test path as often as every 100 ms to expose normally detectable switch faults. The associated transition is limited to 2 ms maximum and 500 us typical, and this diagnostic glitch cannot be disabled on 3623.
An Off-state resistance below 24 ohm reaches the short-circuit detection boundary. A reverse diode on the I/O module provides inductive kick-back protection when energy stored in an inductive load is released.
Can Triconex 3623 be used for a 24 VDC field load?
No. Triconex 3623 is the 120 VDC supervised output model and its recommended field-voltage range is 90-150 VDC. A 24 VDC circuit requires a model whose official voltage and field-termination arrangement match that circuit; similarity in module shape or channel count is not enough.
What must be preserved when wiring the commoned outputs of Triconex 3623?
Preserve the documented shared field-supply and return arrangement for all sixteen commoned points. Confirm the external termination panel, +V and RTN conductors, individual 1 A fast-acting output fuses, and the load connection for every used point before energizing the circuit.
How does the 30 mA minimum load affect selection of Triconex 3623?
The connected load must draw at least 30 mA for the supervised output circuit to operate within its stated load boundary. If the field device draws less, do not assume supervision will behave correctly; verify the complete field circuit and choose a supported termination or load arrangement.
Could the diagnostic pulse from Triconex 3623 affect a fast field device?
Check the field device's response to a diagnostic transition before commissioning. Triconex 3623 specifies a diagnostic glitch of 2 ms maximum and 500 us typical, and its output-voter-diagnostic glitching cannot be disabled, so a device that reacts inside that interval needs a documented compatibility review.
Which indications should be checked when a Triconex 3623 point reports a field fault?
Start with the point state and the field POWER and LOAD/FUSE indications, then check the module PASS, FAULT and ACTIVE status. Only the primary module asserts the point LEDs when a hot-spare pair is installed, so identify the active module before interpreting a dark spare-module point LED.
Can Triconex 3623T be installed as a direct replacement for Triconex 3623?
Do not treat the two suffixes as interchangeable without an engineering check. Triconex 3623 has 1,500 VDC minimum point isolation, while 3623T has 2,500 VDC; the 3623T guidance also calls for compatibility testing with wiring over 100 m, non-twisted-pair cable, or atypical loads such as smart devices, strobes and klaxons.
