TRICON V9–V11 · 24 VDC Low-Threshold TMR Digital Input Module
THIRTY-TWO-POINT DIGITAL INPUT MODULE
Low-threshold sensing with channel diagnostics and group commoning
The Triconex 3505E is a 32-point, low-threshold TMR digital input module for Tricon v9–v11 systems. It receives 24 VDC field states, converts each point into triplicated controller data and groups the field commons in four banks of eight inputs.
For each channel, the 3505E uses an off-to-on threshold around 10 VDC and an on-to-off threshold around 5 VDC, creating hysteresis between the two states. Input delays below 8 ms for energizing and below 15 ms for de-energizing keep field transitions separate from brief electrical changes at the terminals.
Diagnostics in the 3505E exercise input circuitry on a defined toggle cycle and report individual point state plus module Pass, Fault and Active conditions. An energized point is tested every 100 ms, while a point held continuously off must be manually toggled within the stated 24-month interval to preserve diagnostic coverage.

The 3505E translates low-current 24 VDC field states into the three-channel data used by the TMR controller.
Thirty-two points are arranged as four groups of eight, with each group using its assigned common field path.
Separate turn-on and turn-off levels provide hysteresis so a channel does not change state at one identical voltage boundary.
Each input is conditioned for the three module legs before the controller voting path receives the channel state.
The 3505E combines automatic testing of energized inputs with a manual toggle requirement for points that remain off for long periods.
An input in the On state is toggled by diagnostics every 100 ms to expose normally detectable circuitry faults.
A point continuously held Off needs a manual state change within 24 months to complete the specified diagnostic coverage.
One indicator shows each point state, while PASS, FAULT and ACTIVE LEDs describe the module-level condition.
The 32 inputs are commoned in groups of eight. Four field groups therefore make up the complete module. Each eight-point bank uses its assigned common, so a terminal plan should identify the group as well as the point number.
The recommended field range is 20 to 42.5 VDC. The maximum listed input voltage is 42.5 VDC. Design values should remain within the recommended range rather than using the absolute maximum as the normal operating target.
The separate thresholds create hysteresis between energizing and de-energizing. This prevents one boundary from controlling both transitions. The typical 2 VDC hysteresis further separates the two switching directions.
The off-to-on delay is less than 8 ms and the on-to-off delay is less than 15 ms. These values apply to the input transition path, not the complete controller scan. Controller scan and application response add their own timing beyond these module-level input delays.
The diagnostic cycle toggles an On point every 100 ms. That cycle supports detection of the faults covered by the module diagnostics. The automatic test is tied to the energized input condition and should not be described as a field-device functional test.
A continuously Off point needs a manual toggle within 24 months for the stated diagnostic coverage. The requirement applies to the point state, not to replacement of the module. A maintenance record should identify points that remain Off continuously so the manual interval is not overlooked.
