Trident communication and communications integration modules · Trident systems · exact-model selection
For Trident communication service, the Triconex 3201 / 3211 pair provides two distinct module roles. Triconex 3201 is the Trident Communication Module (CM), while Triconex 3211 is the Trident Communications Integration Module (CIM); both sit in the Trident system communication path rather than in the field I/O channel path.
At the external interface, Triconex 3201 / 3211 divide the communication roles: the 3201 CM carries Trident data through three serial ports and two Ethernet ports, while the 3211 CIM provides the corresponding integration role. The serial side supports Modbus master or slave service, and the network side carries TCP/IP, TSAA, TriStation, SOE, HMI, OPC, printer, peer, and time-synchronization traffic rather than field I/O.
Within the pair, Triconex 3201 / 3211 separate communication status from Trident field I/O. On Triconex 3201, Pass, Fault, Active, and lock indicators describe the module, while TX/RX or Link/TX/RX indicators identify activity on the serial and network paths; the port role therefore determines which cable and protocol enter the communication path.

Triconex 3201 / 3211 move Trident data to external serial and Ethernet services; they do not replace a field input or output module.
The CM 3201 serial ports can operate as Modbus master or slave connections.
The two network ports carry TCP/IP, TSAA, TriStation, SOE, HMI, OPC, and peer traffic.
Network ports also support time synchronization and peer-to-peer communication between Trident and Tricon systems.
Triconex 3201 gives the technician port-level indicators so the controller, serial, and network states can be separated during checks.
Pass, Fault, Active, and lock indicators show the module condition.
TX/RX indicators are provided for each serial port.
Link and TX/RX indicators are provided for Net 1 and Net 2.
For Triconex 3201 / 3211, Triconex 3201 is the Trident Communication Module (CM), while Triconex 3211 is the Communications Integration Module (CIM). They are two roles in the Trident communication path, not two names for one field I/O card.
For Triconex 3201 / 3211, The CM 3201 provides three serial ports and two Ethernet network ports. The serial and network counts should not be transferred to 3211 without its own hardware record.
For Triconex 3201 / 3211, The serial ports on Triconex 3201 can operate as Modbus master or slave connections. The selected port role determines how the external serial device is represented in the communication path.
For Triconex 3201 / 3211, The network ports carry TCP/IP, TSAA, TriStation, SOE, HMI, OPC, printer, peer-to-peer, and time-synchronization services. These are communication services rather than field input or output points.
For Triconex 3201 / 3211, Pass, Fault, Active, and lock show module state, while TX/RX indicators show serial activity and Link/TX/RX identify Net 1 and Net 2 activity. The indicators therefore separate module status from port traffic.
Triconex 3201 / 3211 move controller data to serial and Ethernet services; they do not convert a field sensor or switch a field load. The cable and protocol assignment must follow the communication port used.
