The performance of microprocessor-based relays largely depends on the performance of their analog measurement channels, as the protection functions operate based on these measurements. Failures in the analog measurement channels, whether due to external circuit faults or internal faults within the UR current/voltage transformer module, can lead to erroneous operation of the protection functions. UR current/voltage transformer modules with enhanced diagnostic capabilities (module types 8L, 8M, 8N, 8R, 8S, 8V) can detect analog measurement channel failures caused by internal module faults, issue a module fault alarm, and prevent any protection functions associated with that module from activating. This feature is available in UR series firmware version 5.20 and later, and has been proven in practical applications since 2006.
