The MTLx544 provides a fully floating DC power supply capable of powering two conventional two- or three-wire 4/20mA or HART transmitters located in hazardous areas and forwarding current to other circuitry to drive two safe-area loads. For smart transmitters, the device allows bidirectional transmission of digital communication signals superimposed on the 4/20mA loop current. Alternatively, the MTLx544S can be used as a current sink for safe-area connections, rather than sourcing current into the load. Separately powered current sources, such as four-wire transmitters, can be connected, but HART communication is not supported.
