Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS group spans 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 kW Kinetix 5100 EtherNet/IP indexing servo-drive ratings at 230 V. Each drive combines an axis power stage with dual Ethernet networking, embedded index control, motor feedback, digital I/O, a braking-resistor connection and safe torque-off terminals, while the selected catalog number fixes the usable current and circuit-protection range.

Supply compatibility differs inside 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS: the first two can operate from 120/230 V single phase or 230 V three phase, with their output reduced on 120 V; the 3.0 kW 2198-E2030-ERS uses 230 V three-phase input. The line input charges the internal dc bus, the inverter produces U/V/W motor power, the MFB connector returns rotor position, and the shunt terminals divert regenerative energy to a selected resistor when the application requires it.

200 V Output Scaling and Phase Selection

2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS share a 200 V-class motor bus, but the installed input phase determines which rating remains available.

Reduced 120 V ratings

The 1.5 and 2.0 kW models become 0.75 and 1.0 kW drives on 120 V single phase, changing the torque-speed envelope available from the motor.

Full 230 V operation

Both smaller drives deliver their full rating on 230 V, while 2198-E2030-ERS requires 230 V three phase for its 3.0 kW output.

Protection tracks input current

The prescribed branch device rises from 25 A to 50 A across the three-phase ratings and must not be selected solely from motor nameplate current.

Motor, Shunt and Safe Torque-Off Connections

The power and control boundaries of 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS are separated across motor, feedback, regeneration and safety terminals.

Power and feedback separation

U/V/W carry switched motor power while the MFB connector carries low-level position and commutation signals on the specified feedback cable.

Regenerative-energy path

During deceleration, rising dc-bus energy can be switched into an external shunt resistor selected for resistance, power and duty cycle.

Torque-removal circuit

The STO inputs remove torque-producing gate commands without serving as a general run command; the safety circuit and normal motion enable remain separate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS not all use 120 V single phase?

Only the E1 models include the stated 120 V single-phase ratings, and those ratings are reduced. The E2030 catalog number is a 230 V three-phase drive and must be supplied accordingly.

How is the correct breaker chosen for 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS?

Start with the exact catalog number and installed input phase, then use the documented branch-protection value. Do not copy the breaker size from another 5100 frame simply because the motor voltages match.

Why can 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS trip during deceleration?

The moving load can return more energy than the internal bus can absorb. Review the deceleration profile, shunt-resistor connection, resistance and duty rating before treating the drive as defective.

What cable separation matters for 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS?

Keep motor and line-power conductors away from feedback, I/O and Ethernet cabling. Proper shield termination and routing reduce noise entering the low-level feedback and control circuits.

Why can STO remain active on 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS after an enable command?

The safe torque-off circuit is independent of the network or indexing enable. Both STO channels, their supply and the configured safety loop must be valid before the power stage can produce torque.

What changes in terminal preparation across 2198-E1015-ERS / 2198-E1020-ERS / 2198-E2030-ERS?

E1015 uses the smaller 24…12 AWG range and 11 mm strip length. E1020 and E2030 accept conductors through 10 AWG and use a 13 mm strip length, so connector preparation is not identical.
