Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT is a ControlLogix-XT redundancy module that links the primary and secondary controller chassis in a redundant system. One module occupies the same chassis slot in each partner chassis, and two fiber channels carry redundancy synchronization independently of the controller Ethernet network.
Preinstalled SFP transceivers on Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT provide CH1 and CH2 redundancy ports, while the backplane connector exchanges controller and chassis state with local modules. Both chassis use matching supported ControlLogix controllers, modules and redundancy configuration so a role change does not introduce a different I/O structure.
The XT construction of Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT extends operation to −25…+70 °C when installed in a supported 1756-A7XT or 1756-A10XT chassis with XT power. Module indicators show link and redundancy state, allowing a failed fiber path to be distinguished from a partner-chassis or synchronization condition.

Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT forms the dedicated synchronization path between two matching ControlLogix-XT controller chassis.
Install one Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT in the same supported slot of each partner chassis so the redundancy structure remains symmetrical.
CH1 and CH2 connect the partner modules and provide two redundancy channels that remain separate from the control Ethernet network.
Each module receives controller and chassis state through its local backplane, then transfers the redundancy data across the fiber link.
Confirm compatible XT chassis, power supplies, controllers, module inventory and identical slot assignments before mounting either redundancy module.
De-energize both chassis, seat each module fully, connect CH1 to CH1 and CH2 to CH2, and protect the fiber bend radius and connector faces.
Restore power, check both channel indicators and partner status, then complete synchronization and a controlled role-change test before returning the system to service.
Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT depends on matched primary and secondary chassis structures; different slot assignments break the expected redundant configuration.
Use the same supported redundancy-module catalog in both partner chassis; Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT is intended for the ControlLogix-XT chassis and temperature environment.
A single channel fault on Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT requires inspection of the indicated SFP, connector and fiber path even if the second redundancy channel remains active.
Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT is listed for 1756-A7XT and 1756-A10XT chassis with the compatible XT power architecture.
Keep Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT SFP and cable ends capped until connection, clean them with approved fiber procedures and avoid tight bends or side load.
After replacing Allen-Bradley 1756-RM2XT, verify both links, partner recognition, module compatibility, full synchronization and the documented controlled switchover test.
